Edible Printers for Cookies and Gingerbread — Personalisation, Large Orders and Fast Payback
Print logos and photos directly on cookies and gingerbread. See ArTer printer speeds, low edible ink costs and examples of investment payback.
ArTer edible food printers can print full-colour images directly onto gingerbread cookies, biscuits, macarons, lollipops, marshmallows, meringues, chocolate, cakes, cupcakes, éclairs and many other confectionery products.
Producingpersonalisedcookies, gingerbread and other small confectionery items in large quantities is one of the fastest ways to recover the investment in an edible printer. These products can be manufactured in batches of hundreds or thousands, while each item can feature an individual photograph, name or company logo.
What does an edible printer offer your business?
- Fast decoration: ArTer C15N can print approximately 160 cookies measuring 7 cm in diameter per hour.
- Very low ink costs: approximately €0.003 for a full-colour image on a 7 cm cookie.
- Access to corporate orders that would be difficult or uneconomical to fulfil through hand painting.
- Fastpersonalisation of ready-made products, including urgent orders.
- New opportunities in gifts, promotional merchandise and personalised confectionery.
- Greater creative freedom, higher order values and access to new customer groups.
In markets where skilled labour is expensive, automation is particularly valuable: instead of repeatedly painting intricate designs by hand, a confectioner can produce more decorated products in the same time.
Our calculations show that just a few large orders can cover the cost of anArTerprinter. Additional opportunities — urgent personalisation, original gift collections and new corporate customers — make the investment even more attractive.

Printing speed and ink consumption
The following figures are based on a round cookie measuring 7 cm in diameter.
| Parameter | ArTer C10 | ArTer C15N |
|---|---|---|
| Printing speed | ≈120 pcs/hour | ≈160 pcs/hour |
| Ink cost per item | ≈€0.0029 | ≈€0.0029 |
| Printing 1,000 items | ≈8.3 hours | ≈6.25 hours |
| Printing area | 20 × 30 cm | 20 × 30 cm |
Ink costs are calculated using a 4 × 100 ml set of Kopyform edible inks priced at €30, with full-colour coverage of the entire printable surface. Partial image coverage usually reduces ink consumption, and less demanding print settings can increase productivity.
For urgent orders, confectioners can prepare plain iced cookies in advance, then add photographs, names or logos once the customer places an order.
For large production runs, printing onto a smooth sheet of fondant and then applying the printed decorations to cookies can be an efficient alternative to decorating each cookie with royal icing.
How quickly can anArTerprinter pay for itself?
We examined published prices in European and US markets and estimated production costs for personalised cookies, including ingredients, coatings, packaging, labour, electricity and printing.
For large batches we deliberately used low US wholesale prices as a conservative competitive benchmark. European markets also offer opportunities for smaller, higher-priced personalised and artisan orders.
| Order for finished cookies | Estimated profit from a new order | Orders to cover a C15N |
|---|---|---|
| 50 cookies at €4 each | ≈€95 | 23 |
| 100 cookies at €4 each | ≈€201 | 11 |
| 2,000 cookies at ≈€1.79 each, US benchmark | ≈€1,150 | 2 |
| 5,000 cookies at ≈€1.56 each, US benchmark | ≈€1,832 | 2 |
ArTer C15N costs €2,180 excluding VAT. The figures are production scenarios based on new orders and do not guarantee sales or profits. Actual results depend on production organisation, local costs and commercial expenses.
Even at competitive large-order prices, a small number of substantial orders can potentially recover the equipment cost. The printing itself can be completed in approximately a working week, although preparing, baking, decorating and packaging the finished products require additional time.

Additional opportunities to earn more
Corporate clients. Cookies featuring logos for conferences, exhibitions, hotels, restaurants, Christmas events and employee gifts open a separate sales channel. Large orders help keep production equipment in use.
Urgent orders. A stock of undecorated or pre-iced cookies makes it possible to complete personalised gifts, photographs, edible puzzles and company logos at short notice.
New market niches. Direct printing onto suitable plain cookies, without icing or fondant, can simplify production and expand the range of affordable promotional products.
Creative confectionery. A printer takes over the repetitive part of applying complex images, leaving more time for artistic details, packaging, original collections and new ideas.
Different customer groups and export markets. Corporate wholesale, local gift shops and small premium orders each offer different opportunities. Confectioners can select the products and markets that best suit their production costs and capabilities.
How easy is it to use anArTerprinter?
- Prepare your products. Royal icing works well for gift cookies; printed fondant can be convenient for large batches. Suitable plain biscuits can also be printed directly.
- Arrange the products on the printer table, choose the image and set up the print layout. C10 has manual height adjustment; C15N automatically adjusts the height using a laser sensor.
- Print a test product and start your batch. The table still needs loading and unloading, but intricate images no longer have to be painted individually.
Customers often supply their own images. You can also prepare designs in a simple graphics editor, create a collage or use AI tools to adapt an illustration. ArTer provides training materials, templates and ongoing technical assistance.
